Calming Supplements for Pets

Calming Supplements for Pets

As we move closer to Firework Season, we have many enquiries from pet owners who want to know more about natural calming supplements for their pets. We've outlined the key benefits of our favourite natural calming supplements to help you choose the best one for your pet:

Nutracalm: We love Nutracalm because it is fast acting. Nutracalm is one of the fastest acting natural calming supplements we stock, getting to work in 1-2 hours. Nutracalm can be used for dogs, cats and horses. This high strength product has no sedative effect on your pet and comes in a sprinkle capsule which makes it easy to administer. The formula is based on L-Tryptophan, GABA and Passiflora Incarnata. Nutravet products are not available to buy online, but we always have a good stock in our shop in Forest Row. Nutracalm can be used daily or for one off occasions such as vet visits.

Scullcap and Valarian for Cats and Dogs: One of our most popular calming products, Dorwest Herbs Scullcap and Valerian for Cats and Dogs reduces anxiety and stress in your pet without immobilising muscles or causing drowsiness. So much so, that this product is popular with owners who show their dogs or compete in agility. These tablets are based on; Valerian, which supports the natural relaxant pathways in the brain. Scullcap which contains a compound that binds to the GABA receptors to reduce anxiety. Mistletoe which stimulates the calming pathways in the nervous system and Gentian which supports and enhances the other active ingredients. This product can be used in combination with Dorwest Herbs Valerian Drops (also in stock), this will enhance the calming effects and is ideal for a 'top up' during extra stressful occasions. These drops get to work in 30 minutes, so it's a perfect combination for anxious or stressed pets.

Tranquillity Gold: This liquid formula is quickly absorbed, making it the ideal choice for anxious dogs. The formula is based on Valerian root, Vervain, Skullcap, Chamomile, Hawthorn, Marshmallow and Meadowsweet herb. This tincture has a powerful calming affect, and is a good choice for dogs who show signs of stress. Please be aware this formula needs a three week loading dose before becoming fully effective, so we would advise beginning to administer Tranquillity Gold by the beginning of October at the latest.

Pet Remedy: Pet Remedy sprays and wipes are the ideal choice for dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, horses and small furries who don't like taking tablets. Pet Remedy sprays, wipes and diffusers are fast acting. Based on Valerian, Sweet Basil and Sage this natural remedy works to calm the stress systems in the body. We love the diffuser for firework season as it can be used with a plug-in socket timer, meaning your pet can experience the calming effects of Pet Remedy even if you get stuck in traffic on the way home!

True Hemp Calming Treats and Dental Chews: These yummy treats and chews are ideal for milder cases. Based on L-Theanine, which helps promote relaxation and Chamomile and Lemon Balm these treats will help your dog or cat relax.

Yora Dreamer Biscuits: Again, these are ideal for milder cases. These hand baked biscuit style treats contain Chamomile, Valerian and Lemon Balm. They are ideal for dogs with allergies and intolerances as they are based on insect protein and do not contain chicken. They are also perfect for eco-conscious pet owners as the whole Yora brand is designed to reduce pet owners environmental impact.

Thunder Shirts: Another popular option for dog owners is a thunder shirt, the gentle constant pressure on your dog's torso has been found to have a calming effect. We stock Thunder Shirts. If you don't have a thunder shirt to hand, and you notice your dog displaying signs of anxiety some pet owners have found success with home-made thunder shirts using clothing or bandages already in the home.

Our whole team has had training on natural calming supplements and techniques so if you do have any questions or would like support please call, email or pop in and we will do our very best to help!
